Hello people,
Well all of you must be aware of the new ad deal Sachin has struck which has broken all the records for the largest deal ever to be made with an Indian sportsperson. In todays issue of the Mumbai Mirror there are views by a couple of individuals on this issue. Here is what they had to say....
"Is this a good deal? With his age of 33, probably we can expect three to six more years of cricket from him and so, the time frame for the deal is an apt one. But, is spending that much sum on him worthy? I doubt it. Even though he is the most celebrated batsman for the past 15 plus years, he is almost seeing the end of his career. Isn’t he? Though he is showing his experience, his classic touches are gone. He is not in great form and more than that, he is no more a match winner. His shoulder injury has been in the news for the past two years and he is still in and out of the team for his treatments. He is getting ready for his last World Cup journey and most probably, he’ll call it a day after that. I feel the advertising company would have made a better deal if they had roped in Yuvi, who is at his career’s peak, or Dhoni, an almost reliable match winner, or Pathan, a good all-rounder."
Another view expressed was...
"I would guess that maybe the corporate think tanks know the real benchmarks for a role model, they know what appeals to the masses really, who excites them, instils emotions, or who is the most convincing to the masses when it comes to your product. Which is why it is Sachin and Sachin only, repeatedly, after all these 16-17 years, after back problems, tennis elbows and shoulder surgeries and accusations of not being able to play the same way he used to anymore, of his transformation from the demigod to the error-prone and hence a normal human. Maybe as they say, Sachin is not just a multi-brand ambassador , he is himself a brand."
With most people seeing Sachin playing till the 2007 world cup, I for one feel he will and should continue playing for India even after the world cup. After all the world cup is just one year away and Sachin can easily play for at least 4 more years. Keeping that in mind the deal made is justified. As far as the magnitude of the deal is concerned....Rs 180 crores / $ 40 million....well i think only one man deserves that and he is undoubtedly Sachin!

Do you think it is a fair deal?
